Homemade Bagels

If I'd known that making bagels at home was so fast and easy, I would have tried it sooner!

Aren't they just gorgeous? They taste great too!

You can find the recipe here. It's pretty simple to follow and it takes only about 1.5 hours from start to finish. The recipe calls for malt syrup or powder, but you can substitute with mild molasses. The trickiest part is the shaping. To shape, I prefer to roll the dough into a ball and poke a hole in the center. Then I gently stretch the hole bigger while turning the dough in my hands. Don't be too alarmed if they look lumpy after you boil them, the crust evens out a bit. Try brushing them with an egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbs water) before you bake them to give then a nice, shiny crust.

Happy baking!
